About Us

The idea for Comet Corn Popcorn was born in the desert. The Hale Bop Comet was illuminated in the desert sky, as Jeff was popping corn over the campfire and seasoning it with his favorite spices for his camping pals. He was at a crossroads in his life and had gone to the desert for a moon cycle to figure out “what’s next”. He had been talking to his pals about this, when someone said, “Hey dude, this popcorn is awesome, I think you’re already doing what you’re supposed to do!”

He thought to himself, “What do I love? Camping, food, music and friends”; and decided his new job would be vending his soon-to-be famous popcorn at music festivals.

Being the creative fellow that he is, he designed a solar/propane, one-of-a-kind popping cart and had it built. Together, Jeff and Sherry developed a spice bar of 30 shakers of flavors and Comet Corn Popcorn became a reality.

After vending a few years and having a blast doing it, they had built warm relationships with their festival “tribe”. Their dedicated customers started clamoring to get Comet Corn Popcorn all year rather than just at festivals, so the idea for bagging our delicious corn started growing.

Jeff was in the building trades for most of his life, and Sherry had been a chef and then a caterer in Sonoma County for 26 years. Together they learned how to create a retail product: packaging, labeling, creating wholesale accounts, distributing and then to build a manufacturing facility.

Jeff designed and had built the one-of-a-kind equipment for their “popshop”, since most equipment manufacturers build machinery for much larger operations than ours.

All of this creativity has grown Comet Corn Popcorn into Sonoma County’s favorite popcorn company. Our motto is, “It is our job to make people happy and we also happen to make delicious popcorn!”

We are eternally grateful to our popcorn “tribe”!
